Bernadette Farrell: Lead Organiser, overseeing all South London boroughs
As well as overseeing South London Citizens' work, she has primary responsibility for Lewisham. She has been involved in London Citizens since its beginnings in 1997. She was South London Citizens’ first organiser, setting it up in 2004, overseeing the successful Lunar House campaign. With leaders in Lewisham, she pioneered the “CitySafe Haven” scheme, signing up businesses to report 100% of crime and antisocial behaviour and providing a refuge to people in danger.
Sebastien Chapleau: Greenwich and Living Wage Organiser
Born in what is often refered to as “la banlieue”, just outside Paris, he came to the U.K. in 2001 to study in Cardiff where he wrote a Ph.D. in literature, critical theory, and deconstruction. He taught at Cardiff for two years, wrote, published, and edited, articles and essays on various aspects of literature and cultural theory, before coming to London to become a primary school teacher in Greenwich. He likes reading, writing, and improving his photography skills.
Jonathan Cox & Sophie Stephens: Wandsworth and Citizens for Sanctuary Organisers
As Lead Organiser of the Citizens for Sanctuary, Jonathan Cox runs the campaign to reform the UK asylum system in line with the recommendations of the Independent Asylum Commission (IAC). Jonathan lives in Battersea, and goes to St Mary’s church. Sophie Stephens also works for Citizens for Sanctuary and is the Organiser responsible for Balham and Tooting.
Jamie Audsley: Lambeth and Schools Organiser
Jamie grew up in Battersea and has lived and worked in Wandsworth, Southwark, Croydon and Lambeth, where he is now firmly based. Before starting as an organiser he worked on democracy, education and youth projects and taught Geography and Science at Addington High School in Croydon. As borough organiser for Lambeth, he is working to expand South London’s membership and across London as a school's organiser.
Barbara Nalumu: Croydon Organiser
Barbara joined the team in March 2010 after volunteering for Citizens for Sanctuary and Strangers into Citizens. She completed her undergraduate education in Kingston University and has since been giving back to community through voluntary work. She is passionate about change especially working with communities to make a difference. In her spare time she works with lone parents by training them in IT skills and Social Enterprise.
Derron Wallace: Lewisham Organiser
Derron joined the team in 2010 after volunteering on CitySafe and Strangers into Citizens. He completed his undergraduate education in the USA and has since spent some time living and working in the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. A keen student of educational policy and liberation theologies, Derron works with schools and organisations to engage their local communities and effect social change. In his spare time, Derron sings and travels with his beautiful wife, Danya.
Dermot Bryers: Southwark and English for Action Organiser
I've been part of London Citizens since 2006, working on the Living Wage Campaign, Housing our Future and Citizens for Sanctuary. I come from Tooting and am proud to be involved in making London a fairer place. I teach ESOL in community contexts through English for Action. When not working, I'm usually playing football, learning new languages or running around the streets of London.
Carina Crawford-Rolt: Citizens for Sanctuary Organiser
After studying Anthropology at University, Carina moved to Spain and then France to work out what she wanted to do! Relatively early into her adventure, she was exposed to migration around the Mediterranean and discovered that things weren't always easy for people who were moving to a new country. After moving to London, Carina spent two years working at The Refugee Council in Brixton before starting as Projects Organiser for CITIZENS for Sanctuary in January 2009. When not working, Carina likes to dj, garden and cook.
